When the late Dr. Vivencio V. Villaflor, Sr. established a modest clinic in
1967 with a start up bed capacity of 17 beds in the very heart of Dagupan
City, he dreamt that it would grow into a hospital that would cater to the
medical needs of his fellow Pangasinenses. Along with this dream was
his vision that someday, indigent patients would not be deprived of health
and medical services by reason of poverty. However, his noble intentions
remained a dream because of healthcare would always be synonymous
with financial perquisite.
In order to breathe life into Dr. Vivencio V. Villaflor, Sr. 's dream, a group
of medical practitioners from Dagupan Doctors Villaflor Memorial Hospital
(DDVMH) and several committed individuals bonded together to form the
Dr. Vivencio V. Villaflor, Sr. Medical Foundation, a non-stock, non-profit
organization, in pursuit of the following objectives:
- Encourage, promote and ensure the continuation and propagation of the
socio-civic and medical work/services rendered by the late Dr. Vivencio V.
Villaflor Sr. during his lifetime, by providing adequate medical aid, research
and education, as well as, financial assistance for treatment and confinement
of indigent patients.
- Raise funds, receive donations of real and personal properties, lease or buy
suitable buildings and equipments, purchase or accept gifts as may be
necessary for the purpose of carrying out and sustain the operations of the
foundation, help develop the health care community, and improve the quality
of life.
In putting up the foundation in 2000, this group of DDVMH medical
professionals and individuals have formally incorporated their commitment
to do service for the community through various medical projects and
activities, some of which have been on-going since 1983. These include
holding annual medical/ surgical charity missions for the whole month of
September, health information drives and seminars, vaccinations, and
mobilization of free medical/dental check-up to remote "barangays".
The foundation has also actively campaigned in health information
dissemination by producing an hour long medical & infomercial talk show
aptly titled "Doctor ON Call", telecast live, once a week, at the community
cable channel. Each week the show invites DDVMH consultants to
discuss and explain the various medical ailments and diseases particular
to his/her field of expertise, addressed to the ordinary layperson.
Recently, the foundation has started supporting several cause-worthy
groups by helping do research and participate in creating awareness for
disease prevention such as diabetes, cancer, tuberculosis, asthma, etc.
From its humble beginnings, the foundation has constantly focused on
helping the less privilege; provide the best possible medical care. But in
spite of its modest achievements, a lot more needs to be aspired for. And
against the never-ending formidable challenge of improving the quality of
health in the community, the foundation continues to strive in its
commitment, inspired by the late Dr. Vivencio V. Villaflor Sr.
